Information on the Maritime Program in Southport on May 15!

Calendar: NC Maritime Museum at Southport
Title: 3rd Tues. – Death and Dying: Customs and Culture During the Civil War w/ Lori Duppstadt
When: May 15, 2012 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Location: NC Maritime Museum at Southport, 204 E. Moore St., Southport
Join the NC Maritime Museum and the City of Southport at the Southport Community Building, for the Third Tuesday Evening Adult Program, as we join Museum Educator, Lori Duppstadt, for a “lively” discussion of mourning practices during the Civil War. Discover how these customs shaped a culture, both north and south, suffering from war and disease. Although bullets were taking fathers, sons, and cousins, dreaded diseases running rampant destroyed soldier and family alike. Learn how sexual roles and familiar relationships drove the fashion of death and changed funerary practices.
Light refreshments will be served. Program is free. Please pre-register. Details: (910) 457-0003, www.ncmaritimemuseums.com

NC Maritime Museum at Southport Makes Robert Ruark Inn Proud!

We feel so blessed and proud to call Southport home! The Ocean breezes kiss our cheeks every day and the Live Oak Trees add beauty to the Carolina Blue Sky.
The Robert Ruark Inn is proud of Southport and North Carolina and how they offer historical programs that educate us on the history that led us to where we are today.
That’s why we support and applaud the NC Maritime Museum at Southport. On the third Tuesday of every month, they offer a fabulous program filled with history and fun facts on the Cape Fear River, Southport, Pirate Days, Civil War Times and so much more.

If you are a Civil War historian or just like learning more about the life in those days, come check out this Tuesday’s program … Come enjoy the NC Maritime Museum at Southport’s presentation and stay the night at the Robert Ruark Inn. Mention this blog and ask for the discount in honor of this Tuesday’s program being put on by the NC Martime Museum at Southport. See you there. Call us at 910.363.4169 for a room on Tuesday, May 15.
