Filming for Nicholas Sparks’ SAFE HAVEN starts w/o July 1

There will be a few extra visitors around Southport next week as filming for SAFE HAVEN begins. Nicholas Sparks’ book is being made into a movie staring a number of popular stars.

Safe Haven starts filming in Southport Soon!

Excitement is building around town as directors, crew & actors are seen getting ready for the filming on Nicholas Sparks’ SAFE HAVEN. The Robert Ruark Inn Team is looking forward and welcomes one and all. Rick and Linda just saw “Rock of Ages” last night and are so proud that someone with such talent as Julianne Hough will be sharing her talents with a book set in wonderful, historic and coastal Southport, North Carolina!

Tall Ship HMS Bounty Entering Cape Fear Inlet and passing by Southport

The Tall Ship HMS Bounty will arrive in Wilmington on May 17t and will be open to the public for tours from Friday, May 18 through Sunday, May 20. Tours will start at 11:00 am and end at 6:00 pm daily. Souvenirs will be available for purchase.

The cost of the tours is: Adults – $10.00; Children over 7 – $5.00; Children 7 and under – Free.

The ship will be docked at Riverfront Park downtown near the corner of North Water Street and Princess Street.

This 180-foot-long replica of the famous 18th century ship was built in the early 1960s as a floating movie set for the 1962 Marlon Brando motion picture “Mutiny on the Bounty.” It has also been in many other films including “Pirates of the Caribbean – Dead Man’s Chest.”

In 2010, Bounty sailed through all five Great Lakes as part of the ASTA Tall Ships Challenge. In 2011, she visited Europe. This year, the ship is making stops at various ports on the U.S. East Coast.

Discover how these customs shaped a culture, both north and south, suffering from war and disease. Although bullets were taking fathers, sons, and cousins, dreaded diseases running rampant destroyed soldier and family alike. Learn how sexual roles and familiar relationships drove the fashion of death and changed funerary practices.

The Robert Ruark Inn just had a cancellation for next weekend (May 18 & 19).  It is our only weekend opening remaining for  May 2012 and is in “Virginia’s Suite.” This antique filled suite is on the first floor and boasts a King sized bed with luxury linens.
